Who We Are
Families Changing America is a national non-profit organization founded by a network of families who have lost loved ones to substance abuse.
Our purpose in creating this organization and web site is to illuminate how pervasive, insidious, and dangerous substance abuse is to our families, friends, and society, as well as to support and educate families to prevent more loss of lives. We are here to help by sharing vital information and providing valuable resources.
Too many lives that held so much promise have been lost. Too many families and friends have suffered these losses and our world is less rich because the flame of talent was extinguished long before its promise burned bright. For too long, substance abuse has been stigmatized and families have felt shame. There are many thousands of families who have lost loved-ones to substance abuse and the disease of addiction. Substance abuse is an equal opportunity killer. It is not confined to one neighborhood, socio-economic group, or one kind of kid. If it happened to our families, it can happen to anyone’s family.
If your family has already been impacted by substance abuse, we want you to know you are not alone in your struggle and there is hope. We believe families everywhere should learn about substance abuse and learn from others who have gone through the nightmare of losing a loved one.
